Welcome! This is the blog I wish I had when I started travelling solo
Hey there! I’m Sophie, and I’m so thrilled you’re here. Welcome to my little corner of the internet, where I share everything about solo female travel, backpacking, budget adventures and living the dream as a digital nomad.
Starting a blog feels a bit like stepping onto a new path, exciting, a little nerve-wracking, but full of endless possibilities. And just like stepping onto a plane for your first solo trip, it’s the beginning of an amazing journey. So, pull up a chair, pour yourself a coffee (or tea), and let me take you through who I am, why I started this blog, and what you can expect to find here.

How my solo travel journey began
I’ve always loved to travel. But my real adventure kicked off in 2022 when my best friend and I set out backpacking across Southeast Asia. Imagine bustling night markets filled with delicious street food, hidden waterfalls tucked away in jungles and sunsets that painted the sky in fiery colours. It was incredible, but it was a shared experience.
After that trip, life took us to Australia. We spent a year working in hospitality, first in vibrant Melbourne, then exploring the tropical charms of Cairns in Northern Queensland. It was during this time that I discovered the magic of working remotely, laptop in cafés, beaches as my office and endless new places to explore on weekends. Then came the big shift: I decided to take my work and my travel solo. The idea of travelling alone as a woman felt daunting at first, but once I took the plunge, I never looked back. This is where my true solo travel story began.
Why solo female travel?
Travelling solo changed everything for me. It wasn’t just about ticking destinations off a list. It was about discovering who I was outside of my comfort zone, finding courage, independence and confidence.

I know solo travel, especially for women, can seem scary. There are questions like:
- Is it safe?
- Will I feel lonely?
- How do I even start?
I’ve been there. That’s why this blog is dedicated to giving you honest answers, practical tips, and real stories from the road. Whether you want to explore your first solo trip or dream of making travel your lifestyle, I’m here to help you feel inspired and ready.
What you’ll find on this blog
This blog isn’t just about my adventures (although I’ll be sharing plenty of those!). It’s a resource for anyone who wants to:
- Start solo travelling with confidence
- Master budget travel without sacrificing fun
- Backpack smartly and safely
- Live and work on the road as a digital nomad
Expect a mix of travel guides, honest reflections, gear recommendations, budgeting hacks, and all the ups and downs of life as a solo female traveller.
My solo female travel tips for beginners
For anyone just starting out, here are a few tips that helped me get going:
- Start small. Your first solo trip doesn’t have to be a 6-month backpacking adventure. Try a weekend getaway in a nearby city or a short trip abroad to build your confidence.
- Plan, but stay flexible. Research your destination’s culture and safety tips, but leave room for spontaneity; some of the best experiences happen when you least expect them.
- Connect with others. Solo doesn’t mean alone. Join local meetups, stay in hostels, or use apps like Meetup or Couchsurfing to meet fellow travellers.
- Trust your instincts. If a situation or place doesn’t feel right, don’t hesitate to remove yourself. Your safety comes first.
- Pack light but smart. The less you carry, the easier your journey. Focus on versatile clothes and essential gear, I’ll be sharing my favourite backpacking packing lists soon!
Why I started this blog
Starting this blog is my way of giving back, sharing the lessons, tips, and stories I’ve collected so far to make your solo travel journey smoother and more joyful. I want this to be a place where you can find honest advice, inspiration, and a little bit of virtual company on those days when solo travel feels lonely.
I’ll also be sharing behind-the-scenes of my digital nomad lifestyle, how I balance work and travel, stay productive on the road and find Wi-Fi in the most unexpected places.

What’s next?
Over the coming weeks, I’ll be diving deeper into topics like:
- How to plan your first solo trip
- Budget travel hacks that really work
- Best destinations for solo female travellers
- Backpacking tips and packing lists
- How to work remotely while travelling
And I’d love for you to be part of the conversation, so leave comments, ask questions and share your own travel stories.
Let’s explore together
If you’ve ever thought, “Can I really do this?” the answer is yes. Solo travel is for anyone brave enough to take the first step. This blog is here to help you take that step with confidence, curiosity, and a big smile.
Thanks so much for stopping by and joining me at the start of this exciting adventure. I can’t wait to share more stories, tips, and travel magic with you.
Grab your backpack (or just your phone for now), and let’s go explore the world, one solo step at a time.
Welcome to the journey!
